Terms & Conditions, Safety Rules and Code of Conduct

1. Introduction

These Terms & Conditions and Safety Rules are designed to help ensure the safety and enjoyment of all customers, participants, staff and visitors at Wigan Roller Rink.

Roller skating is an active sport and, like any physical activity, carries an inherent risk of injury. By entering the rink or participating in any skating activity, you acknowledge these risks and agree to follow these Terms & Conditions, the safety briefing and all reasonable instructions given by Wigan Roller Rink staff.

Please read these Terms & Conditions carefully before participating. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to a member of staff before entering the rink.

2. Admission and Booking

All new customers must read, understand and agree to the applicable waiver, Terms & Conditions and safety briefing before participating in any skating activity.

Customers may be refused access to the rink if the required waiver or safety requirements have not been completed.

All participants must have a valid ticket, booking or other authorised admission to enter and use the rink.

Payment must be made in full before participation unless an alternative payment arrangement has been agreed with Wigan Roller Rink in advance.

A booking is confirmed once payment has been received and confirmation has been issued by Wigan Roller Rink.

Customers must attend the session, lesson or event for which they are booked. Attempting to attend a different session without prior approval may result in refusal of entry.

Customers should arrive in sufficient time to check in, collect skates and safety equipment and be ready before their session begins.

3. Roller Skating Lessons

Where applicable, a roller skating course fee covers the number of lessons specified at the time of booking.

Lessons are provided at the dates and times stated on the booking confirmation.

Missed lessons are not normally transferable and no replacement or make-up session will be provided unless agreed by management.

If a participant fails to attend a scheduled lesson, the session will be considered used and no refund or compensation will normally be provided.

Participants should arrive promptly and follow all instructions given by their instructor.

Wigan Roller Rink reserves the right to change an instructor, session time or lesson arrangements where reasonably necessary.

4. Safety and Equipment

Roller skating can involve falls, collisions and other accidents. Participants acknowledge that these risks are inherent in the activity.

Participants must ensure that they are physically fit and able to participate safely.

Participants should inform a member of staff or instructor of any injury, medical condition or other circumstance that may affect their ability to participate safely.

Anyone who is unwell, injured or otherwise unable to participate safely should not skate.

Pregnant participants are advised to seek appropriate medical advice before participating in roller skating activities.

Participants must use all safety equipment provided or recommended by Wigan Roller Rink in accordance with staff instructions.

Protective equipment should be put on before skating.

Participants using their own skates or other equipment are responsible for ensuring that it is suitable, safe and in good working order, with no loose, damaged or defective parts.

Customers must check hired or provided equipment before use. Any defect or concern must be reported to a member of staff immediately.

Management reserves the right to stop any participant from skating, remove their skates or require them to leave the rink if they believe the participant is putting themselves or others at risk.

Participants must follow all rink safety rules, directional markings, signage and instructions given by staff or instructors at all times.

Skaters must skate responsibly and at a speed appropriate to their ability and the conditions of the rink.

Deliberate pushing, tripping, weaving dangerously through other skaters, reckless skating or any other behaviour that creates an unreasonable risk is prohibited.

5. Accidents and Injuries

All accidents, incidents and injuries must be reported to a member of staff immediately.

Where an accident or injury occurs, Wigan Roller Rink may require an incident report to be completed.

Customers must cooperate with staff when an accident or injury is being dealt with.

Wigan Roller Rink staff may take appropriate action to protect the health and safety of the injured person and others, including stopping participation where necessary.

6. Personal Belongings

Wigan Roller Rink does not accept responsibility for the loss, theft or damage of personal belongings brought onto the premises, except where liability cannot lawfully be excluded.

Customers are responsible for looking after their own property and are advised not to bring valuable or unnecessary items onto the premises.

Personal belongings should be stored safely in the designated areas where available.

7. Food, Drink and Smoking

Food and drink must not be brought into the skating area unless expressly authorised by Wigan Roller Rink.

Chewing gum is not permitted while skating.

Smoking is prohibited anywhere inside the premises.

The use of e-cigarettes and vapes is also prohibited inside the premises.

Candles, sparklers, fireworks, open flames or any similar items are strictly prohibited unless expressly authorised by management for an organised activity.

8. Prohibited Items

The following items are not permitted within the venue:

Knives or other sharp objects.

Weapons or items intended to cause harm.

Fireworks, sparklers or unauthorised open flames.

Any item that management reasonably considers dangerous or inappropriate for the venue.

Wigan Roller Rink reserves the right to refuse entry to anyone carrying a prohibited item.

9. Children and Young People

Children under the age of 12 must not be left unattended at any time unless Wigan Roller Rink has specifically stated otherwise for a particular organised activity.

The parent, guardian or responsible adult remains responsible for the child in their care while attending the venue.

Parents and guardians must ensure that children follow all safety instructions and venue rules.

Wigan Roller Rink staff are not responsible for supervising children unless this has been expressly agreed as part of a specific organised activity.

10. Alcohol and Intoxication

Anyone who appears to be intoxicated or under the influence of alcohol or drugs may be refused entry.

Anyone who becomes intoxicated or behaves unsafely while on the premises may be required to leave.

No person may participate in skating activities while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

11. Code of Conduct

All customers are expected to treat staff, instructors, other skaters and visitors with courtesy and respect.

The following behaviour will not be tolerated:

Abusive, threatening or intimidating behaviour.

Violence or aggressive behaviour.

Bullying, harassment or discrimination.

Dangerous or reckless skating.

Deliberate damage to property or equipment.

Refusal to follow reasonable instructions from staff.

Any behaviour that places another person at unnecessary risk.

Wigan Roller Rink reserves the right to refuse admission, stop participation or remove any participant or visitor from the premises where necessary.

In serious cases, a customer may be banned from returning to the venue.

Management’s decision regarding the safety and conduct of customers will be final, subject to applicable law.

12. Customer Responsibilities

Customers are responsible for following these Terms & Conditions and all safety instructions.

Customers must immediately report any safety concern, damaged equipment, unsafe behaviour or other issue to a member of staff.

Customers must not knowingly participate if they believe they are unfit or unable to skate safely.

Participants must accept responsibility for complying with all safety requirements and using equipment correctly.

13. Photography and Filming

Wigan Roller Rink may take photographs or videos during sessions and events for marketing, promotional and social media purposes.

Where consent is required, customers will be given the opportunity to indicate whether they consent to being photographed or filmed.

If you do not wish to appear in promotional photography or filming, please notify a member of staff in advance and follow the venue’s applicable consent procedure.

14. Cancellation, Refunds and Transfers

Unless otherwise stated at the time of booking, bookings and payments are non-refundable.

Refunds will not normally be provided for change of mind, cancellations, non-attendance or missed sessions.

Bookings cannot normally be transferred, exchanged or substituted without prior agreement from Wigan Roller Rink.

Where Wigan Roller Rink has to cancel or significantly alter a session or event, management will make reasonable efforts to notify affected customers and, where appropriate, offer an alternative arrangement.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions affects any statutory rights that cannot legally be excluded.

15. Changes to Sessions and Facilities

Wigan Roller Rink reserves the right to modify, postpone or cancel sessions, lessons, events or facilities where reasonably necessary, including for operational, maintenance, safety or emergency reasons.

Where reasonably possible, customers will be notified of significant changes through the contact details provided at the time of booking and/or through Wigan Roller Rink’s official communication channels.

16. Liability

Roller skating involves inherent risks, including falls, collisions and accidental injury.

By participating, customers acknowledge these inherent risks and agree to follow the venue’s safety rules and staff instructions.

Wigan Roller Rink will take reasonable steps to provide a safe environment and properly maintained equipment.

Wigan Roller Rink cannot accept responsibility for injury, loss or damage caused by a customer’s failure to follow these Terms & Conditions, safety instructions or reasonable staff directions.

Customers are responsible for ensuring that their own equipment is safe and suitable for use.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits liability where such exclusion or limitation would be unlawful, including liability arising from negligence where it cannot legally be excluded.

17. Hygiene

For hygiene and comfort reasons, customers using hire skates should wear appropriate socks.

Customers are encouraged to bring their own socks. Socks may also be available to purchase from Wigan Roller Rink, subject to availability.

18. Management Rights

Wigan Roller Rink reserves the right to:

Refuse admission where appropriate.

Stop a participant from skating where there is a safety concern.

Remove customers who breach these Terms & Conditions.

Remove or restrict the use of equipment that is considered unsafe.

Temporarily close areas of the rink where required for safety, maintenance or operational reasons.

Take reasonable steps to protect customers, staff, equipment and the premises.

19. Acceptance of Terms

By purchasing a ticket, making a booking, entering the premises or participating in any activity at Wigan Roller Rink, you confirm that you have had the opportunity to read and understand these Terms & Conditions and agree to comply with them.

If you do not understand any part of these Terms & Conditions or have a concern about your ability to participate safely, please speak to a member of staff before entering the rink or taking part.
